META OVERVIEW AS OF MAY 2025

This is the new and improved zoomer JUND build that is best suited  for the current meta.

Strength:

[Lurrus of the Dream-Den] shell that utilizes low cmc JUND bombs such as [Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer], [Nethergoyf], and [Orcish Bowmasters]. It also utilizes the usual suspects from the other legacy formats like [Deathrite Shaman] and [Dreadhorde Arcanist] to interact and disrupt the opponent as early as possible. [Thoughtseize] and removals are the bread and butter of the build that lets you slowly chip away at your opponent. [Birthing Ritual] and [Party Thrasher] is the advantage engine of the deck. [Party Thrasher] lets you throw away any extra lands or [Chrome Mox] to accelerate later on.

Flexible sideboard options and low curve is a key strength of JUND. The deck when faced against multi color land or Eldrazi ramp archetype allows it to board out the Lurrus shell and board in [Blood Moon] to either completely stop their plan or slow the opponent down and eek out a victory. [Blood Moon] is also handy against the rampant no-land [Goblin Charbelcher] and the [Primeval Titan] + [Field of the Dead] deck. [Unstoppable Slasher] is a must board in on difficult match ups and does not want to interactions, it\’s specially handy against decks that refuse to interact early to ramp or [Brainstorm] into their powerful cards.

Weakness: 

The greatest weakness of any JUND archetype usually lies in the late game. The deck usually falls flat against the control and combo match up without [Thoughtseize] or [Inquisition of Kozilek] to remove powerful threats. 

The Boros match up is very difficult, specially for beginners, so I usually recommend adding 2-3 [Pyroclasm] in your sideboard.

Notable Mentions:

[Reanimate] is great against [Show and Tell] + [Atraxa, Grand Unifier] or any creature combo decks. Don\’t hesitate to [Reanimate] any of the creatures in the graveyard such as [Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer], [Orcish Bowmasters], and [Dreadhorde Arcanist].

The deck runs 21 lands, 4 [Chrome Mox], and 2 [Revitalizing Repast]. The [Chrome Mox] acts as sudo lands but it\’s not valued as true lands so I don\’t recommend keeping more than 1 in the starting hand. [Revitalizing Repast] comes in tapped but it\’s very handy later on during a land flood scenario.

[Jarsyl, Dark Age Scion] is still good if you\’re experiencing a lot of control or heavy removal match ups.

[Minsc & Boo, Timeless Heroes] is a juggernaut if you manage to resolve it.

[Jet Collector] have been rising in play this past few months but I still prefer the [Chrome Mox] option. Feel free to give it a try and let me know what is more optimal in the shell.

[Once Upon a Time] are slotted in when you really want to hit that turn 1 [Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer].
