Description
The main strategy is to get Jodah on the battlefield as soon as possible, then cast legendary spells and aim to have multiple creatures on the board to deal lethal damage within a few turns, taking advantage of their various abilities (like flying, menace, etc.) and Jodah’s power/toughness boost. To achieve this, there are several card-drawing spells and others that ramp mana.
At the same time, there are spells that directly protect creatures (and other permanents), such as Dawn\’s Truce, and indirect protection spells, like Negate, that will help keep creatures on the field or prevent non-creature spells (sorceries, artifacts, etc.) that could disrupt the strategy. Additionally, Leyline Binding will help remove any opponent’s permanent that poses a big threat, while Temporary Lockdown removes smaller or multiple threats (like tokens and low-cost creatures). However, it should be used cautiously as it can also remove your own low-cost permanents. Finally, planeswalkers play a support role for the creatures and the game as a whole.
The land distribution is designed to achieve Domain as early as possible, which allows the deck to reach its full potential, while also making use of the lands’ abilities, mainly library manipulation and protection. Lands that can turn into creatures can help close out games. Having basic lands is essential to respond to lands that destroy other lands.
Although Jodah is the most important card in the deck, it’s not absolutely necessary to win games, as there are other winning strategies led by individually powerful cards, like Niv-Mizzet, which capitalizes on the multicolored permanents you may have on the field. Additionally, there are other win conditions that combine the individual abilities of the remaining creatures, utilizing mini-combos such as Shanna and Teferi or Elesh Norn and Leyline Binding, among other options.
