Secrets of Strixhaven is already out with some powerful dual colored Commanders, as of now every set that releases contains a commander intended sheet to be added to the current eternal formats, the Prismari, Quandrix, Silverquill, Witherbloom, and Lorehold schools are open to new EDH opportunities, let’s take a look at the new possibilities for EDH.
Face Commanders
Starting off with Dina, Essence Brewer, a great Golgari Witherbloom proof that even in dead there is something to be gained, whenever you sacrifice a creature, draw a card, and only once each turn, with tap for 2 mana sacrifice another creature, gain X life and put X +1/+1 counters on target creature you control, where X is the sacrificed creature’s power, even if a creature you control is about to be removed you can respond with this ability and make another creature beefier and draw a card, its a win win.
Excava, the Risen Past a deadly spirit horse with plenty of wrath to deal on the board, it has Flying, Haste, Whenever Excava attacks, return up to one target artifact, creature, or non-Aura enchantment card with mana value 3 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield with a finality counter on it. It’s a 1/1 Spirit creature with flying in addition to its other types. (If a creature with a finality counter on it would die, exile it instead.), which basically revives non-Aura permanents from 3 CMC and lower, so the turn this creature enters battlefield most probably will attack with haste, and revive something from the graveyard with a finality counter, even with simple cards like, Relic Retriever which will churn out treasures like crazy with constant revivals from Excava, so it will be flexible mana options for further board development.
Gorma, the Gullet 1/1 for 3 CMC, Witherbloom Pest Frog, Lifelink, Whenever another creature you control dies, put a +1/+1 counter on Gorma. Nontoken creatures you control enter with an additional +1/+1 counter on them for each creature that died under your control this turn, Gorma seems to be a chill version of Ghave, Guru of spores, What Gorma wants is creatures dying, and cards like Immoral Bargain let’s you use your board creatures into destroying your opponents boardstate, with only 3 CMC, and further cast of creatures will make them enter the battlefield with plenty of +1/+1 counters, or cards like Pernicious Deed blowing up permanents from all the board sides, Witherbloom is really distinctive while still remaining Golgari centered, it might seem weird to talk about it but keep in mind these iterations of dual colors are reinventions of what these combinations could become and still remain iconic
Killian, Decisive Mentor 2/3 for 3 CMC, for the silverquill this is a really change of theme of not working with creature or tokens in general, but really honors the Orzhov by forcing the opponents creatures to tap when an enchantment you control enters the battlefield, and then goad it, so in theme is obey and submit to Killian, and then taunt and come to be blocked by Killian’s defenses, Goad is an special attrition strategy first encountered on old Gideon Jura forcing creatures to attack and be decimated by defense efforts, this version of Killian is oriented around enchantments preferably auras, Eriette of the Charmed Apple is a good card to pair Killian with, Pearl-Ear, Imperial Advisor is another helpful creature, Sheltered by Ghosts is a staple for auras now as a temporal removal of creatures, and to be revived by Sun Titan.
Muddle, the Ever-Changing is a tricky creature with Myriad, what it intends to achieve is getting more copies of a creature into the battlefield and putting a bit of a risk by becoming that creature itself, so it goes like this, whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, Muddle becomes target non-legendary creature you control until EOT, except it has myriad now.
When it attacks a player this Myriad Muddle will copy itself for each other opponent, what Myriad wishes to accomplish is to attack every opponent whenever possible, and what you can get from this is more attack triggers or combat triggers for each copy attacking or using these creature copies as resources during combat as they last until the end of combat, Muddle may copy an Emeritus of Ideation and getting more card draws during combat as this creatures enters the battlefield prepared, or will be prepared once attacking and a cheeky little blue mana will get you 3 draws in.
Primo, the Unbounded is your typical Simic X mana cost oriented, enters with twice the +1/+1 counters, Primo centers on creatures with base power 0/0, dealing damage with these creatures will create another 0/0 Blue and Green Fractal creature token with a number of +1/+1 counters on it on damage dealt.
